This state-of-the-art research and teaching facility located on the south campus is comprised of two 115,000 sq. ft. wings,
five stories tall, connected by an indoor walkway. The complex includes core, wet research, computational research, teaching,
and computer labs; a barrier type vivarium; shared support space; seminar and conference space; and offices for students, faculty,
and administrative staff.
Notkin provided design for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection services. Special design solutions include systems designed to allow for peak airflow, providing maximum flexibility for the future. Sustainable design features include runaround heat recovery in addition to variable air volume for laboratory air handling systems, high efficiency chillers with variable frequency drives, variable frequency drives on chilled water secondary and heating water pumps, a CO2 sensor in the auditorium to control outside air ventilation, and waterless urinals. Energy saving features are estimated to save over $150,000 annually.
