P-346 CVN Maintenance Facility, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA
Owner: US Navy - NAVFAC Northwest
Client/Architect: Soltek Pacific / Belay Architecture
Completion: 2007
This three-story, 66,000 sq. ft. new building is comprised of welding shops, light production and kitting shops, locker rooms, HAZMAT shower/locker rooms, and office spaces.
The mechanical systems provide safe and efficient work areas:
- Filtered 100% outside air is used to cool and heat the first floor areas, and the use of outside air contributes to energy savings and efficiency.
- Sensors monitor interior levels of carbon dioxide and monoxide, so that rooms are efficiently heated and ventilated based on occupancy.
- Semi-instantaneous steam water heaters will save on utility and long-term energy costs.
- The criteria for meeting AT/FP requirements meant that building systems were designed to withstand a blast and potential progressive collapse. Life safety critical system components were strategically located.
- Increased quantities of terminal units were provided in office areas to improve ventilation effectiveness and indoor air quality.
