Southcentral Foundation Primary Care Clinic Renovation and Addition, Anchorage, AK
Owner: Southcentral Foundation
Client/Architect: NBBJ
Completion: 2002

Mechanical engineering services were provided for a medical office building addition and renovation. The addition is a two-story building with 56,000 sq. ft. of public spaces, community education, pharmacy, administrative offices, mental health center, radiology, laboratory, family clinic and women’s clinic. The renovation portion of the project encompasses 40,000 sq. ft. over two floors. Mechanical services included HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler protection.

Notkin’s design of the relief air system for the main lobby integrated motorized operable windows with the mechanical ventilation system. This saved the owner money in terms of initial construction costs and long-term maintenance with the use of the operable windows, rather than additional motorized dampers and louvers. These windows also complement the architectural features of the building and enhance the sustainable design aspects of the structure.
