Sustainable

Seattle Public Utilities Operations Command Center Upgrade, Seattle, WA
Owner: City of Seattle
Client/Architect: Hewitt Architects
Completion: 2007
Originally constructed in 1971, the main building is a two-story structure housing administrative offices, SCADA control center, emergency operations center, lecture rooms, and locker rooms to support the field crews. The project reconfigured portions of the facility to accommodate additional personnel, to improve efficiency and use of space, and to meet the new program. It is the desire of SPU to obtain a LEED Silver rating for the project.
Some construction phasing was incorporated into the project to allow uninterrupted operations. The new HVAC systems provide better comfort and air quality control for the occupants. Increased efficiency of the heating and ventilating systems, as well as low flow plumbing fixtures, assist SPU in meeting sustainability requirements.
